Things I Like…Fungi in New Zealand Forests

On my most recent trip to New Zealand (March 19th-April 9th) I took two days at a Christian retreat centre north of Auckland – Warkworth. Just before I drove up there I caught a horrible cold. I decided to go in the first place because I wanted to hear from God about a specific thing on my mind; to spend time with Him as if there was no one else in the world. Fortunately, my sickness didn’t get in the way of that. Unfortunately, it reduced two days of exploring to one. Fortunately again, that one day was fantastic and allowed me to check another thing off of my “25 Things to Do Before I Turn 26” list. I won’t go too much into it now – it deserves its own post – but one of the highlights of Tawharanui Regional Park was all the fungi.

As some of you know, mushrooms are my thing. Fungi of all sorts is my thing. I don’t know why, I just love it.

Eventually I’ll look up all the names of these guys, but for now it’s enough to enjoy their cuteness.

I also managed to confuse two Scandanavian tourists who were hiking in designer sunglasses & fashionably torn jeans…my attention to the mushrooms made them think there was a cool bird or something nearby, haha. We had a good laugh about it.

Mushrooms. Bringing people together since Creation Day #3.
