May-June are Autumn-Winter in Australia!

This weekend I got to leave the eastern suburbs for a bit and head into the Yarra Valley with my favorite Aussies, the Bongers! Ian, Josie, their kids, Josie’s brother, Ian’s parents & I all visited the Yarra Valley chocolaterie & creamery for some intensely chocolate chocolate ice cream. I wish I could describe how chocolatey it was, but I’m still in chocolate coma. (And I’m definitely returning ASAP.) I love getting away from the city & suburbs and into the countryside even just for a few hours.
After our chocolate fix, we visited Yering Station winery to enjoy the autumn leaves. (Yes, fall in June! It’s shocking.) My weekend finished up well with a trip to the footy game with some friends. As I’ve said before, I root (or “barrack” as Australians say) for the North Melbourne Kangaroos. We played St. Kilda and beat them by 68 pts! After a couple of disappointing losses in the past two weeks, it was a great comeback.

Still so strange that it's autumn in June! That's Melbourne.

  1. It’s really pretty there! Glad you had a nice outing. Yes, it is strange to us from way UP yonder that down under it’s autumn right now. We have friends in Perth and when I hear from them, she’s always confusing me about school schedules & vacations (holidays). They’re both teachers. By the way, any chocolate left?

    • I managed to resist bringing any of the chocolate home with me…this time! : ) It was a difficult task, though. They make chocolate bars with “bush tucker” (edible berries, plants, etc. from “the bush”) in them & I’m dying to try!
