Graduation? 2 more weeks! Blows my mind.
Houghton is a small place, but its full of color & sound – especially in the spring. One of the great, more recent Houghton traditions is Houghton Palooza. Palooza is a Saturday full of music! A great mini-festival opportunity to release the inner hippie. This year it’s 18 bands, 8 hours, right on the min-quad in between the townhouses. In other words, outside my back door. : )
Brittany & I were doing laundry & she was baking (at my house, because I’m a baby & wanted her company) when we decided to take a walk & some pictures for the blog. Fortunately, today is sunny; the trees have turned green almost overnight and considering all the snow we’ve had this winter, it’s warm! Brittany was so HUNGRY that I agreed she should bring along her rice & eat it on the way…
As you can see in the picture above, somehow Brittany would accidentally end up in most of my pictures…even if it was just by a smidge. Our spirits were high & Britt was so happy to be eating! On our way to the creek we ran into a few friends. David (who you may remember to as hipster guy from two posts ago) laughed when he saw Brittany’s shiny pot of rice & said it figured we’d be doing “something like that.” Hey Dave, what’s THAT supposed to mean?!
We didn’t go far — just to a part of the creek where we could get our feet wet.
Brittany said “Woah, it would be so cool if there was a dinosaur print here!” AND THEN…
After making this great discovery, Brittany wandered into the creek (still eating her rice). Standing there with cool water on top of her feet & smooth rocks beneath, tasty rice on her tongue, she said she could not be more content.
What a perfect way to feel!
We dispersed for homework but came back at 5 to grill some meat. Alex joined us this time! Did I mention it’s BYOM at Palooza? Open grill! Brittany & I grilled some chicken that I marinated in a garlic rib sauce (I won it at work) & were accompanied by Evan, Ben, & Gareth, who grilled a lot of chicken in some sort of marinade made from “stuff [Gareth] threw together from the house.” Hmmmm.
After we ate & I did some impromptu babysitting, Britt, Alex, Alyssa & I went to the senior art show. It’s the biggest art opening of the year & a variety of talents were shown…from bookmaking to ceramics, to oil paintings, printmaking, photography, carpentry & more. Quite a few of our friends were showing their senior projects, and the refreshment table had rainbow cupcakes! Ahhh!
Afterwards, it was homework & then a showing of Amelie at the boys-by-the-grill’s townhouse. Tomorrow? Senior luncheon at church…maybe watching Hero!
