Thanksgiving has come and gone & I’m glad it happened! I hadn’t been home since April, and even then it was only for a night & an afternoon. Kiah came up from school in Nashville, too, so we three sisters were together. (aaaaawwww ; ) In just a few weeks we’ll be on Christmas break & eventually taking our first family vacay in a while to head to Florida! It’s gonna be a great adventure!!
Speaking of Christmas….YEAH!!! I love Christmastime oh-so-much. Christmas music is happening right now, as I type. Dean Martin, baby! His voice seems to get even better for the holidays.
So, I still haven’t heard from Joyce at OMS about what country Colleen & I will be heading to, but I did talk to her after my last post. It looks like we’ll probably be doing 2 countries in 2 years now, with possibly a 4 to 6 week break in-between. Just a while ago it felt like I was going nowhere, but God gave me a job to do & a passion to do it…and as a bonus I get to travel to do it! I can’t wait. : )
One thing I have to say — this has made me realize how human missionaries are. That sounds obvious & funny to say; I mean, of course I knew that in my head, but I didn’t realize that I thought any differently until I was called to be a missionary myself. I guess I sort of asked for it…I mean, I prayed that He would reveal my faults to me so that we could work on them. I asked to be made humbler. Then, I saw a little better of how human I am…and I know I’m not yet worthy of the calling, but I ask God to make me so.
A few hours ago I started reading a book I found in the Writing Commons, “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency” by Alexander McCall Smith. I’m only a few chapters in, but it’s great so far. Set in Africa — Botswana, mainly — and full of interesting thoughts as well as a great plot. No wonder it was a National Bestseller!
“The only thing that makes me sad is that I shall be leaving Africa when I die. I love Africa, which is my mother and my father. When I am dead, I shall miss the smell of Africa…” pg. 17
Three more weeks to go before I’m free!
